Maintenance

The time has come, we will be going ahead with the planned maintenance during the hours of tonight.

The maintenance window will open at 8pm GMT and will be closed at 11pm. During this time you’ll see plenty of netsplits and services may be unavailable.

Not much will be changing during this window, we are just restoring the original source (changes we made are buggy) so +r will be replaced with +P

We are also working on the public version of sIRCd which we are continuing to maintain, however we are not releasing updated versions to github any longer. The updated source will be available, however it’ll be version 1.0.9 forever.

We are moving the project over to apt repo, and will be supporting Debian Jessie (x86, amd64, ArmHF) only at present. We are slowly rolling out wheezy/stretch versions so those who run either and non debian base OS please use github to compile.

Ubuntu will be an option in the coming months, please add the following to sources.list

deb http://apt.chatfreedom.us jessie main

Adios 🙌

Emergency Maintenance

It’s been a very long time since we’ve posted anything really. The network has been stable however today we need to carry out some maintenance on our servers.

This will indeed effect IRC throughout the day, you’ll see many netsplits however don’t worry this will be completed by 5pm GMT

Have a wonderful day ✌

UPDATE: This will be delayed till further notice (possibly tomorrow) whilst we iron out some bugs.

Nameservers & Changes

Well that was rather interesting, we host our own nameservers and monitor queries on each ns1 and ns2 via mrtg. We noticed a massive amount of queries and had to investigate what the cause of the high volume had to found. We’ve since found the issue and have put it right and I believe it won’t happen again, you may have noticed a few issues over the past 7-10days with connecting to irc or sub domains we host!

Changes to IRCd
we’ve got some changes coming to our IRCd that will secure opers and prevent people sharing passwords. We’ll be adding a secure vhost where opers will need to identify their nicknames in order to use the /oper command.

We know many ircops use custom vhosts, this will not be permitted when the new changes have been made. Every IRCOP will be issued the vhost staff.chatfreedom.us. We’ve already seen a user oper using someone else’s credentials and this isn’t not tolerated

We’ll be testing the changes over the next 14days, and will schedule some maintenance towards end of July

DNS Updates

We’ve just been informed our host has moved us to a faster server but failed to inform us the IP has changed.

Our website was offline for a few days till we was informed about it not loading. We’ve now updated the dns to point to the new IP however it may take 24hours

I’ve been really busy as of lately working on a side project which I won’t go into detail today however my main focus is IRC for now. Plenty of changes happening soon, keep your eyes peeled.

IRCd Patched

We’ve now patched our network so users can use the ctrl + O in vhosts.

This wasn’t really a bug was more of a commit error that wasn’t picked up on. This took around 5 minutes for each server and was completed whilst they was still online just required a reboot to take effect.

We’ve push the commit to GitHub, so if anyone using sIRCd for the colour vhosts is suggested to update. It’s a simple process and requires HOST_C to be added to one line in src/match.c  if you need any help drop me a message

Peace
